Some policies will allow you to transfer your no claims bonus from a private vehicle to your taxi but it will work on a case to case basis

Third Party insurance is the legal minimum. This means you’re covered if you have an accident causing damage or injury to any other person, vehicle, animal or property. It doesn’t cover any other costs like repair to your own vehicle.

Third Party Fire and Theft has all the  insurance features of Third party, but it also covers repairs or replacement if your car is stolen or set on fire.

Comprehensive insurance is highest level of cover (so includes third party, fire and theft)and it’s the only insurance type that covers you if you damage your own car, even if the accident was your fault.

Number of named drivers works on a case by case basis. There is no set limit on named drivers in a taxi insurance policy, this will depend on your drivers circumstances and the insurer you are using.

Taxis are public hire vehicles and need to be licensed to be able to pick people up from the road on the go (when you wave a taxi down).

Privat hire vehicles are only licensed to collect pre booked journeys (like Uber and Ola) and are not allowed to pick up customers from the side of the road.

Ubers are seen as a private hire vehicles (PHV) so their license is slightly different to a regular taxi insurance. You can find out more about the difference in the question above

You can only do so if you hold a regular Car Insurance policy that includes ‘driving other cars’ alongside your taxi licence.

This type of policy grows with you, giving you the freedom to add more cars as and when you need it. This allows you to see off your existing policy, and when that’s finished your new car can be added.

There is some flexibility in terms of where your vehicles are based. Some insurers allow multi car insurance in different addresses in certain cases. For example if one of your children has started university and they are taking their car with them, there is a possibility of keeping it under the same insurance policy.

You will be able to drive any car, as long as you are a named driver in that policy. The other cars that are within your policy should only be driven by the main policy holder. You can on the other hand add a drive other vehicles clause to your insurance policy for an added cost.
